Urban Terror 4.2 to get akimbo weapons [UPDATE]
A few days ago, Frozen Sand relased a very funny dancing video featuring Urban Terror 4.2 that reminds me of machinima stuff.
The video itself it’s pointles.. however what’s really interesting is a glimpse of akimbo (or dual) weapons that Frozen Sand said will be included in Urban Terror 4.2.
The Video
A new weapon?
In addition to see dual sidearms, we can notice a Uzi from a screenshot of the video, which might be introduced in Urban Terror 4.2.
This would probably mean ANOTHER (unneeded?) secondary weapon.
How they will work?
We still haven’t official news about how they will work. They likely going to be used with Left/Right mouse buttons. My guess is that they will be a pickable equipment like Laser or Silencer that will double the number of sidearms (2 berettas, glocks or DEs) and possibly secondaries (this could mean that the Uzi is a new secondary weapon). We don’t know if accuracy will lower but probably it will, however this might seem the only downturn for now.
How will they affect the release?
The concerns goes to the release of Urban Terror 4.2. Adding new stuff always means more time to test it and balance it. We can agree that 4.2 it’s already late and should be released asap, that’s why many suggested that this featured could slip to the next release (4.3?).

Looks like the DE will have 14 bullets instead of 7. If it keeps the same damage, rate of fire and accuracy it will become devastating.

I think two sidearms are totally pointless, because there’s no point of having two of the same weapons if they are identical. It also makes the game a bit more unfair, because a person playing with four weapons (primary, secondary, 2 sidearms) will almost never have to reload in a firefight, and can beat other enemies that have only 2 weapons. This forces everyone to have two sidearms to survive in the long run, and this will cause the amount of people using laser or silencer to dwindle by a lot. This also defeats the purpose of needing skill when shooting instead of spamming, because with two sidearms, for example two DEs, it is very easy to kill someone because you have fourteen shots in total and you only need three of them to hit at most.
Regarding the UZI, I really hope it has different stats than the UMP or the MP5k, so I actually have a choice of five secondaries (UMP, MP5k, SPAS, the new shotgun, and UZI). If it has the same stats as the MP5k then adding a new gun is pointless.

Do you see people using LR300, UMP and Pistol often? What’s different here?
I wonder if this will make the decision of Nades vs Secondary weapon with SR-8 easier.
I always see the LR300/UMP/DE setup. The difference is that with more than one sidearm, it makes the game imbalanced, as the double Beretta becomes a mini machine gun, and the double DE is just plain insane, unless they nerf it. It defeats the point of having a sidearm, and it’s like having two primaries (1 proper one and the sidearm x 2 combo) and one secondary.
LR300/UMP/DE? You gotta be kidding me. I rarely see people use 2 autos… Unless they picked it up from somebody else, I doubt people would pick two autos.
It’s true, I saw some guy do that before. It’s not common, but it has been seen before (not |tR| server).
I think duel weapons will be good. Then I get twice the ammunition before reloading although reloading two deagles might take a while.
I’m pretty sure the ability to carry two sidearms would eliminate the ability to carry a secondary.
Personally, I’m skeptical about how accurate this video is. I’m not taking anything with a grain of salt (except for the map location). The dev team has stated that the Laura player model is purely for their testing purposes, and not going to be part of 4.2. That being said, I agree with Concealed that having two sidearms is going to degrade gameplay A LOT. Spam DE? Yes please? Not at all. F2 that. Or, think about two Berettas. It’s already a miniature machine gun if you know how to use it that way. Now double that, and you have a fairly accurate long range machine gun.
I personally just think that the UZI and the dual sidearms is just the dev team putting something together that looks epic. And the video is just that. Epic.
Unfortunately looking at the statements from Frankie V on the forums it looks like the contrary. They also said that duals are something that the community wanted for a long time..
Why the heck would people want to spam the DE or replace an LR300 with two Berettas? I think the players are thinking “oh boy, I can now spam the DE, I will be pro and no one can beat my spamming DE!!!” But they are forgetting firstly, that other people can spam DE on them, which is just as awful… Secondly, this eliminates the “fun over realism” quote that UrT made when they released it, because now it’s identical to real life where one bullet can end a person’s life (similar to 3shots:14bullets ratio) and therefore it’s “realism over fun”… It also takes away the skill factor of the game, and the game will be revolving around luck instead of skill.
Off topic comment: I think it’s time to post another play of the week. If you can’t make it with the commentary, which is awesome, you can just upload a few videos and call them “Videos of the week” so people understand there is no commentary. Even that is better than only posting articles. Not that your articles aren’t good, but a video will be nice.

giving extra guns for the “noobs” to have some fun with, is worse then changing the game play to make it more “luck then skills”, is worse?

That to me is worse… that to me would mean another unused weapon or asset.
I wouldn’t say that extra ammo is useless…for TDM it’s a must, unless you’re using an SR-8.
Nobody uses extra ammo, apart from Hk69 players. Moreover, in TDM, you can pick a lot of stuff on dead guys, so extra ammo is purely pointless.
I dont think that it would change so much, or why is it possible to kill 3 men with an autmatic only with DE?

Other way its very usefull for snipers with DE, cause when u hav to rush as a sniper, u should have more then 7 bullets
I disagree with you, because those 7 bullets are very strong and powerful ones. If there are more than seven, the DE would slowly become a spam weapon.
On the official page it says “If you watch closely you get a glimpse of the duals that will be introduced in Urban Terror 4.2″.
I’d say that means we’re gonna see dual weapons in 4.2. I’m betting that it will simply be a choice of guns… not ANY gun. So you can have a single P90… a single UMP… dual mac10s… etc. as a choice for secondary. I think it will just be a choice stylistically, not a perk.
With how much they have balanced the guns in 4.1… I’m not worried about them making something that is completely off the scale. It’s not like they’re not taking their sweet time with the release so they’ll have time to playtest this stuff.
No offense to Urban Terror creators or anything but shouldnt they be busy creating 4.2 instead of worrying about movies that leave us all with more questions and frustration than it started

Agreed. Also, all the time spent animating those useless dance moves could have been used to fix the fugly new jump animation.
I’m pretty sure that they where previously made.. so that’s not a big issue. The duals themselves will actually make the developement longer imho.
I think this adds a new dynamic to the game giving it some change in gameplay. If you don’t change the gameplay occasionally the game gets old.
You’re assuming that the people that made the video are currently actively involved in the development cycle. The dev team is obviously segmented… so these animators could very well have had nothing to do while they waited on some bit of programming code to be finished for the core engine. Having worked in dev teams like that before… I’d say it’s a pretty good chance.
I’m sure adding duals did affect development time… but I get the impression that they were planned for a while… so that is PART of development time.
I think it’s funny how many people are complaining about the features in 4.2 already… and we don’t really know what the features will be due to the intentional lack of information from frozen sands. Sweet raptor jeebus… there will be plenty of things to gripe about in your free game someone labored to make AFTER you get it in your grubby little hands lol.

All right, no more griping until 4.2 comes out. What happens, happens, and there will be a lot of complaints. (See Urban Terror website upgrade for a great example.)
And, truth be told, a lot of “suggestions” come from what players think would best boost THEIR game, instead of the game ITSELF. Complaints seem to lean the same way—either they complain about something that’ll “cramp their style,” “ruin the game for them,” or not fit in their views of “acceptable” game changes. I’m not harping on anyone here, I’m just as guilty of this as the next player.
So, leave complaints at a minimum, leave your attitude in the main menu, and keep fragging.

Well Piano-Man… I don’t think I’ve been accused of holding back on the forums at all..
I think we should all go gripe about the stupid site design frankly. They said “yes… we know everyone wants a wider format and lighter colors… but we’re not gonna do that!”… wow.
It’s always a delicate balance with these sorts of products. We should all be appreciative of the effort that they put in… but they wouldn’t have a game without us players so they should consider what we want. It’s a back and forth. The real problem is that they said they were releasing 4.2 what… back in the jurassic period? And then…. they didn’t. Then they put up a bunch of youtubes!… then they didn’t release. If they had given us more of a time frame… or at least kept releasing tidbits to show they were still working on stuff rather than the all or nothing… I think it would have kept a lot of people happier on both sides of the fence heh.
I have to step back every so often and say “oh yeah.. we’re talking about a freakin’ video game here” sometimes hehehe.

I would rather have it only be pistols. And make the TMP(or Mac10 or Uzi)a pistol because it is a machine pistol. Then you don’t have to complain about 60 bullet UMPs and 90 bullet P90′s.
BTW, no one seems to have mentioned the Glock’s performance akimbo. Wasn’t the Glock supposed to make the Beretta obselete? Now we have the effing akimbos to further kill the Beretta. I’ll stick with my DE while I kill you with my LR before I need to reload, cuz then you’ll kill me with your 60 round TMP.
Maybe they could make it so that dual pistols are primary weapons. So that you can choose between for example an auto OR dual pistols.

OR Dual pistols, secondary.
Maybe I’m trying to fit my style again, but I think having a primary as well as a pistol is better than sacrificing a primary for one more pistol (unless you like it)
I was thinking more of this:
Primary: autos, snipers, Dual pistols, + all secondary weapons
Secondary: ump, spas, mp5k, p90, BM4, uzi
Pistol: yeah, pistols

Actually, Frankie said that ” this is still speculation and the final determination will be applied once the set up has gone through player testing “, so I think that it’s very unlikely that it’ll get implemented imo.
Also, as stated by Frankie ” the only real advantage is in the total amount of ammo that is locked and loaded “.
It works by only having to click your fire button and the gun it shoots from alternates. I know it’s not exactly official news, but it’s from a pretty reliable source.

I find it hard to believe with all the attention they’re getting right now that they would have posted we are definitely getting duals on the main page if we weren’t. That thread has had two or three dev team members saying that they’re coming in it… so it seems like it’s a good bet to Me.
How can they make such a dance but are not able to give us proper movement?

Because pre-rendered movement sequences are far easier to make fluid than in game ones. They even explain this in the first animation test video on youtube.
I’m always surprised people whine about this so much. When I’m playing… zipping around at mach 10… being shot at from all directions… I pretty much never find Myself saying “LOL that animation skipped 2 frames… noobz!”

Its only apparent when you look for things like that. I never noticed animations until the “new” 4.2 animation vid came out. Now I keep seeing these crappy unrealistic animations.
Do we really need sand and tiles on the floor?
That’s the point though… the 4.2 animations HAVEN’T come out yet. We have seen some work in progress preview animations on youtube. We haven’t played 4.2 yet. I don’t notice the animation in 4.1… I’m busy playing the game.

Looks more and more like it’s going to be alternating fire with only ammo being the advantage. I would have much preferred having it set as a firing mode just like semi / burst / auto… fire both, or fire alternating. Both would do higher damage per hit… but it should have less accuracy and spread faster.
That selective fire stuff idea is PERFECT. or maybe we could shoot one weapon with the left mouse button, and the other one with the right mouse button. BTW will dual weapons have one ammo counter for each individual weapon, or do they just have one for both of them?
I also doubt it will be implemented. IF, then dual DE will be a primary slot, like the dude said ^^.
I would love to see awards like double/-triple kill, headshot etc in 4.2.

It’s about time! The DE should have an extended mag as well as the beretta. There are real 20 and 30 round mags for the beretta right now. I think the DE should have a 11-14 mag capacity and the Beretta should have a 20 round mag. AND PLEASE, SOMEBODY, fix the weapon choices. Why do you HAVE TO have a primary? Why can’t we decide? This ruins bomb maps. I should be able to choose no primary or no 2nd, and have the options for gear. In bomb maps right now, to have 2nd means I have to have 1st that I can’t use, but wastes a gear spot.
And could the chicks show a little skin? Is that too much to ask
