Two official Urban Terror 4.2 videos
After a week of leaked material popping out everywhere, finally we got a word from Frozen Sand. Two videos showing off some gameplay from an early build of 4.2 just came out.
The first thing that pops is the amazing work done on the map. Tombs looks very nice and we can also see the bump maps and the specular maps working. We have a first look at the Benelli M4 also. Altrough it doesn’t seem very interesting for now since it just looks like a SPAS with the model changed.
Animations and models still have flaws but it’s a step forward.

- Could Urban Terror become the next Counter Strike? The next Urban Terror update is gonna be really important. In my opinion is gonna equal the importance that the 3.0 and the 4.0 had in the past. does new shotgun have a secondary fire mode ? like in Crysis the secondary mode is 3 pellets in shotgun shell or 7 pellest in shotgun shell…. wish you understand what i mean… lol
ps: i speak french sorry for poor english…
I think the characters are looking quite dump. They should leave them as they are in 4.1.
Also the jumping animation looks stupid. Like a bunny, hopping up and down trying to catch a carrot. xD
quote 100%
Cool. Still hoping for a new primary.
G3!
Is it out yet?
I’m not convinced on the new animations either… they look fake and amateurish. Although the reloading animation is very nice and a welcome addition.

i think that the green shotgun shells look kinda stupid as well as the looks of his arm and the actual shotgun looks like its from world war 2 (very old) the map needs to look a bit more realistic but over all looks great and the guy should not do a flip when he dies that just blows
and i agree to when =SC=aXe” said the jumping animation looks stupid. Like a bunny, hopping up and down trying to catch a carrot. very true
I’m surprised no one has talked about weapon balanced. It’s NOT fine as it is. People, especially the good players, use the lr300/m4 and sr8 much more than any other weapons. At least the sr8 ones are either very good, or use it to “look like” pros while missing most of their shots… but the majority use the lr300/m4, doesn’t it slightly suggest it’s freaking overpowered with enough skill?
I’d like to see more weapons used by “pros” instead of the same ‘overpowered’ ones — by overpowered I don’t mean that they are automatically better, but that with enough skill, they ARE better than others. So they “scale” with skill more than say, the negev (without silencer, lr300 doesn’t need laser or silencer to be good), spas (compared to other secondaries, especially the ump) or psg1.
It’s NOT fine. It’s not the “spirit” of UrT. It SUCKS this way. And I’m tired of devs turning a blind eye to it. Just like in the horrid Counter-Strike balance.
(from the look of the video I see another 80% of the time worthless secondary shotgun, unless you’re very close up and walljumping like a pro, but only in close areas… ffs ump can kill you in 0.4 secs with enough skill)
Weapons that “are godly” if you have enough skill are NOT balanced compared to others that, no matter your skill, they still suck. Just because the lr300 is balanced compared to say, the negev, in a noob’s hands or an intermediate player’s hands, it doesn’t mean it’s balanced in a skilled player’s hands. And that does NOT make it ok. Not to mention that the negev is “heavy”, when it is already not the best ‘pro’ choice and thus it needs a boost. Even removing that heavy won’t make it ok.
But sure, turn blind to it, say “it’s just because they’re good players”, that’s why basically all good players use the lr300 or sr8… and rarely the g36 sometimes. I’m SICK of these weapons being in 90% of the pro players’ hands.
Simple listing:
Nerf slightly: LR300/M4, G36
Boost a lot: SPAS (more shots, more damage, more accuracy, so it can be comparable to the UMP as a secondary)
Boost slightly: PSG1 (e.g: less penalty while moving), Negev (remove heavy or make it OVERPOWERED in normal operations, after all, it wastes your stamina, it has GOT to be BETTER than other weapons if you want it balanced, at this point it’s worse with its damage, in SPITE of the weight disadvantage).
Devs please play the game or observe how pros play the game more and FIX it. I know I’m gonna get flamed from players who “deal” with it, but I want ALL weapons to be used by pros, in different situations.
bfg10k: What a good player can make of the guns and with the important inclusion: _against other good players_ has to be the guideline, or else you’ll end up with less complexity, as in interesting quirks to the gameplay overall, when the game is pushed, which must be the ultimate goal.
The Negev for example is fine as it is. It is a lethal support weapon, as in for combined fire, or for running battles rather than tight critical situations. Add the AK to the list of useable weapons in pro competition (this is non debatable), and it’s mainly the Spas which I agree is quite pointless, but fun. The smgs can be lethal on their own and obviously act as lesser autos to be paired with the SR-8. So that leaves the PSG1. I dont know – it could probably be balanced, but that is it.
I say dont fix what’s not broken, it is a game with hitscan AUTOS, it would be remarkable if something wouldn’t have an upside, but the thing is, the three or four main ones all have their own quirks and can still compete.
There is also a certain elegance in my humble opinion in less choice (and somewhere one might have to accept that it might only be viable to have one, or two, or three guns), even though that is not fully the case even. If you nerf one thing to match the rest it will all turn into one homogenous mush, or that is the risk. You can always tweak the lesser weapons, but dont touch the LR300,M4,G36 and ak, smgs, or pistols.
I’m an noname in urt and play for fun but was classed as high skilled in ETQW clan competition (meaning not so high compared to warsow/quake duel type players or ET players so not complimenting myself) and could have gotten in on a shady questionable netcafe sponsorship as a toddler, playing cs. I can compete with the people playing on >Z<'s best of the best pub server (being european and unhit helps
