MP5, such a fast gun!

I think the mp5 is a better weapon because it offers a faster rate of fire over the ump. Sometimes I’ll use a silencer with the mp5 which almost makes it equal to a primary weapon. Overall I think the mp5 just has better balance than the ump does.

I think the ump is a better weapon as it has a lot more accuracy than the mp5 and hardly and recoil. Not to mention that it does 100% damage for a headshot (non helmet of course). Ump also seems to get a lot more headshots having basically no recoil.

When you play in a small and crowded map, mp5 is to prefer because of its amazing fire rate that allows to kill 2 (and occasionally 3) opponents with the same magazine, spamming at their heads. When the opposite teams has 2 or 3 players only, UMP (having a better precision them mp5) can be used like it was a DE with more ammos. With a slow rate weapon (H&K, SR8 or AK) I usually join a mp5 and DE to balance. With PSG1 I always use UMP and Beretta.
With other auto weapons (LR, M4, G36) a secondary is almost useless, because it is very hard to use 90 bullets in a round.

It really depends. First I’d like to point out some common misconceptions about each gun. The UMP, while it has very little recoil is very inaccurate when not used with a laser. Try shooting at a wall and watching where the bullets land (without a laser) and you’ll se what I mean. Try it now with a laser. Very accurate. The MP5 on the other hand, gets knocked for poor accuracy. Like the UMP (without a laser), it doesn’t have terrific accuracy, but the spread never becomes excessive. That being said, I usually don’t use secondaries. When I do, I find myself using the UMP when I have a laser and the MP5 when I don’t.

I don’t use secondaries often but when I do I’ve noticed that the MP5 is the red-head stepchild. It doesn’t get much love but it can sure pack a punch. The insanely fast fire rate makes it a decent weapon and the accuracy isn’t bad for the fire rate. With that said I believe it can still be used mid-long range effectively it just wouldn’t be a fast killer. After all you’re using a secondary because your primary is a sniper rifle so you shouldn’t be long ranging with your secondary anyway.

Freekill

I prefer UMP for a few reasons: 1 hit to head, more controllable recoil imo, better ammo efficiency (going “click click” is bad), lower rate of fire is balanced by damage. The UMP kills fast enough at short range, and still performs well at mid range when you don’t have the chance to pull your SR-8 out. Anyway, you should be using controlled bursts for anything but extremely short range, so the lower rate of fire becomes something of a non-issue, or even a benefit.

While I regularly use both guns, I would say the UMP is better. I does enough damage to allow you to kill a lot more people per clip than the MP5 does and it kills opponent without helmets with a single bullet to the head. The fire rate, while slow, is still fast enough to kill close adversaries almost as fast as with the MP5. The UMP’s accuracy is also way better, it will hit reliably at medium range and can be used at long range thanks to its very low recoil. The UMP can also be used in full auto for a long time and still be relatively accurate, this cannot be said of the MP5 that has horrible accuracy after 6 or 7 bullets.
With that said, I usually don’t use a secondary, it’s easy to pick one up on the ground, and a silenced Beretta or a Desert Eagle is more than good enough to kill your opponent should you be using a sniper rifle as your primary. If you have an automatic as a primary, well, starting the round with a secondary is pretty much useless, as you can kill a lot of people with a clip from your auto and your pistol before having to reload, and one of your kills is bound to be carrying a secondary.

Usaly never take a secondary weapon, but if i do i will take the mp5, simple because its way faster – And ump5 is somehow a bit unhit for me, think its because of its speed.

I roll with an MP5 for a backup weapon when I’m SR8ing. It can mow down rushers very well with controlled spam. When I want to be more offensive I use the UMP as if it were a Baretta on steroids.

I usually take SPAS, but when i take auto, it’s mp5.

The only advantage that the MP5 has over the UMP is a faster rate of fire. Everything else about it sucks. So if you are looking for some easy hits then go with the MP5. Otherwise, with aim, the UMP will give you a much easier time killing enemies.

Overall

7 Players have told us that MP5 is better for them and 4 have told us that UMP is better. Two more players ([sDi]Lebbra! and GingerbreadMan) said that really depends on equipment, primary weapon and map.
