Key mapping Basics

There are a couple of things that you should do as soon as possible. One is to bind some radio messages, and we’ll talk about this in another post. The other is to map your keys effectively. I found the basic configuration a bit frustrating and very uncomfortable, also it doesn’t look like any other configuration from the modern FPS. Luckyly you can change it. The following is my key map. I found it to be very good. It can be a good starting point to you to improve it further and further.

(I have also big hands so you might wanna do some changes if you have small hands.)

If it isn’t clear here are the keys:
W,A,S,D: Movement
Q: Healing
E: Action (like open doors)
R: Reload
F: Gun (or Pistol)
G: Grenade
Z: Knife
X: Firing Mode (like switching to burst)
C: Crouch
V: Toggle Primary/Secondary weapon (you have to manually bind this).
-: Drop Weapon
+: Drop Equipment

I left out all the radio binds and message binds, since there will be a whole post about it.

  1. 6 Tips to get the most out of your radio The team radio in Urban Terror is fundamental to coordinate between teamates and is crucial to achieve a victory in possibly every game mode. We already discussed it and we talked about usefull radio binds but today we are going to take it a little bit forward. Here are a few tips to improve your binds to make sure you get the maximum effectiveness possible....
  2. Radio and message binds you should use There are a couple of messages you must be ready to send to your teamates anytime. Using the radio manually is almost impossible, so it is crucial to bind some radio messages. I feel that having the F1-F10 keys for this is quite uncomfortable. If you have read my previous post about key binds you should know that I have scattered my weapons all around WASD and left the keys 1 through 0 free. I used them for radio binds and let's see what they do....
  3. Capture the Flag Basics Who doesn't love the tension when both flags are missing, and you're desperately trying to get your's back before the enemy does? In Urban Terror, CTF is an extremely challenging gametype with little space for mistakes. Here's a guide on how to make the most out of the round!...
  4. Funny things to try: The Counter-Strike Training Method Have you ever played Counter-Strike? I did a couple of times. Is quite funny but I can't live with walljumps. In Counter Strike you can't choose weapons from the start of the round. You start with the standard pistol and then you earn money during the round to buy equipment and weapons for the next round. So the first round is very particular since is basically pistol only. Also when you do certain actions like TeamKilling you loose money and it happens that you can't afford any weapon and stick with the standard pistol. I found this method to be funny when applied to Urban Terror and I use it as a training method once in a while when playing on public servers. Let's see how it works!...
  5. Urban Terror Aim Settings Basics This is a long awaited post. There are a few variables that you can use to improve your mouse precision besides sensitivity. These variables can really help, in conjuntion with a good mouse to improve your aim skills. Today we are going to take a look just at the basics, since the topic is really [...]...

It’s very particular! I suppose you play a lot CTF.

I have a pretty odd layout. Mine is:

E, S, D, F: Movement (hold down forward and both strafes to sprint)
    W: Healing
    Ctrl: Action (like open doors)
    R: Reload
    G: Primary
    T: Secondary
    V: Pistol
    3: Grenade
    Q: Knife
N: Firing Mode (like switching to burst)
    Shift: Crouch
    -: Drop Weapon
    +: Drop Equipment
    Space: Jump
L: Switch Loadout (I have a loadout cycling script I wrote, switches through all my most common loadouts)
0: Secondary Loadout Cycler (switches through my more unique, less used loadouts)

Also, I have a program that allows me to use my headset to call radio binds with voice commands. For example, I say ‘medic’ out loud and my ‘I need a medic’ bind is called.

    • Engine says:

I’ve seen that program on a YouTube video. Is that usefull?

      • AO2|Nihility says:

For when you don’t have Teamspeak or Vent, it is really nice because it allows you to use a whole lot of different radio calls, all without remembering the button or even fumbling for it. You just speak the command and a fraction of a second later is it called. You can also use it for other things, for example changing weapon, gear, firing mode, etc. Even opening doors or shooting (if you were stupid, too much lag time to shoot with.

        But overall, I like it.
