Urban Terror Cheats – What to do if you spot one
Though most of the people in Urban Terror play fair, there’s always the possibility of a cheater joining a game and ruining everything. For example I once played a round of TS, where a cheater went afk and in order to win, we had to kill him. He had an aimbot activated and that basically made him an autoshooting unkillable spawnproctecting turret. Hackers can be a real pain in the back and that’s why we all hate them. This article will cover how to behave if you spot a hacker and want to take care of him.
Note: I’m not going to explain what hackers are, there are some videos on YouTube, that explain it well.
If you think you spotted a hacker, DO NOT TELL ANYONE! Don’t even tell your dog. He’ll give you away. Be absolutely quiet and give him the possibility to make mistakes. After he has given you three moments in which you think “Hm, that guy could be hacking…”, tell everybody that you have to do something, like walk the dog or get some food. Then go spec. If the hacker is dumb, he will continue his play style. I strongly reccomend the safer method though: Say gg and disconnect. Change your name to something else and reconnect. Naturally, as you are still connecting, you will remain in spectator mode. Stay there and spectate the cheater. While doing that, record a demo. In fact, always have a demo rolling when dealing with hackers. Once you have recorded the scumbag, contact the server’s admin, so they can ban him for good. If you don’t know how to contact the admin, head over to www.urtadmins.com and sign up for a free account. You can then submit the demo of the cheater, so that he can be added to their banlist after the demo has been confirmed and the server has been made sure to be a UAA one. Chances are good that the banlist will be implemented into the core code of Urban Terror, the cheater will be banned for good!
Caution though
Some players are really that good, and often very good players play under fake nicknames (why?). Spectate and record a demo, but never call someone out. If he’s not a cheater you will probably notice it (from the movements, from the behaviors etc.) Sometimes players just pull out some freakin’ ridicolous shots.

lol. nice cross-reference to tarquin’s video
nice tutorial though. I only missed reading something about how to even make sure somesone’s a cheater or not, for example the thing with the normals…
that article is on the way
Some of the things that will help from My experience:
1. If you play on a server a lot, you get to know the regs. Someone shows up… gets a ridiculous high score / ratio… and no one knows who they are… that’s a hint.
2a. Good servers carry the UAA tag and have a respectable and organized forum. Forums are free to set up these days… no reason they shouldn’t have a section for posting demos (usually listed in the loading screen of each map) and it should be checked by admins every day or two at the outside. (We have a chatbox on DSG that most of our admins check regularly).
2b. Check out the “confirmed cheaters” section (whatever it happens to be called) on forums (heck, go check out the ones at the UAA). Then you can see what the experienced people say is a cheater. Aimbots are easy… and a novice cheat-catcher should be able to spot that quickly. The calibration spins and quick snaps are simple to see. Next move on and watch confirmed walling demos without shownormals but with the sound turned up on your headphones (you have headphones right?). Then watch with /r_shownormals 1 turned on and see if they are spotting players through walls.
3. go to youtube and watch the videos about the cheats. A quick search for “urban terror mombot” will turn up tons. See what it looks like for a player using them (please please don’t be tempted to download them… it’s bad on so many levels… and 90% of the time just puts a virus on your computer anyway). That like in the article has a pretty common cheat in it.
4. Watch for pauses while specing. If you watch someone and they constantly pause in the middle of an area… or right after they spawn regularly… there is a good chance it’s because they are messing with settings on the cheat itself. You can’t see it, but they’re messing with stuff on their screen.
5. Someone that repeatedly drops out of the game quickly whenever anyone goes to spec or is in spec for more than a few seconds is hiding something.
6. Totally agree with the article… don’t be a jerk. Some players are just really really good. As an admin, I’ve had to deal with rude players that show up and call every single kill a “haxxor” just because they suck and the other player is kicking their ass. It doesn’t do any good without a demo to prove it and just makes you look like a jerk. If you spot an aimbot (it’s not hard) and you ask and there isn’t an admin on… calling out a cheater sometimes works to get rid of them. “Player so-and-so is aimbotting and I have demo to prove it” is enough to warn the legitimate players. But making a huge scene is just going to make everyone think you’re just being a noob. Personally, I like the drop out, rename, and come back method… use it all the time. Good way to get enough demo to ban a cheater.
kudos on the article.
“Hackers can be a real pain in the back and that’s why we all hate them. This article will cover how to behave if you spot a hacker and want to take care of him.”
Please do not confuse cheaters with hackers who have usually nothing to do with cheaters.
Hackers do cheat.
I think you should choose a different Youtube video. That once has a link to Mombot lol. Not that it’s hard to find, but I don’t think it’s too terribly good an idea to link almost directly to a cheat from this site.
I find the hardest thing is convincing an admin someone is cheating. Honestly I can tell in about 30 seconds of specing, but some admins seem to be ridiculously anal or just stupid. I was on a server a few weeks ago and I could tell someone was cheating the first time they shot me. It just didn’t look or seem right. They were also getting a ton of kills extremely quickly. I popped into spec and confirmed it was an aimbot. I called a vote kick as I didn’t know there was an admin on. It barely passed. The guy came back and called a vote to kick me. The idiots kicked me. I come back and try to explain somewhat nicely that so-and-so is a cheating sack of shit. An admin finally pipes up. He goes spec when I tell him to. About 5 minutes pass. I wonder what the hell he’s doing. I go spec and ask, and he is actually there watching the guy (I presume), but not kicking him. He could have made a 5 second demo that proved this asshole’s guilt. This is maybe a bit extreme compared to normal reactions by admins, but I find it’s really hard to make admins kick cheaters. I only remember once that an admin went into spec with me, agreed instantly, and banned the cheater.
I try to avoid newb servers as much as possible. TDM, FFA, and those big 20 player CTF servers always have cheaters. They also tend to be adminned by powertripping jackasses that need a kick or ten in the face. Unfortunately a lot of new players tend to play on those gametypes so they must think Urban Terror is full of cheaters.
Same thing happens to me. Sometimes… I don’t know… admins are afraid to use their RCON. Why? Especially aimbotters are super easy to spot (the majority of them)… 5 seconds demo, ip ban, demo to UrTAA. Time: 1 minute.

Not that I don’t appreciate a nice kick or ten in the face… but we also tend to have a lot of noobs that come on and cry haxxors every time they’re shot. I had someone call hax on Me (I’ve never even downloaded them, let alone used them) in game. Never spec’d.. just called hax. Then… goes to spec.. comes out and says “he’s totally aimbotting…”.
I have rarely had any problem on a server with getting ahold of an admin. I’m sure it happens… but you get to know the servers you go to. If you are on a UAA server when no admin is present, take a demo and submit it (as was the premise of the article). If you’re on a server where there just isn’t good admin coverage… don’t go there. Not so hard. Those type of servers tend to self-destruct because no one wants to go to them.
Since you’re the best cheat catcher on the net, maybe you should consider joining and demoing for the UAA rather than bashing on the admins of the servers who are actually doing something about things.
As for gametypes… I find TS players tend to be a bit elitist about TS. When I review and vote demos at the UAA for the global banlist… it’s a pretty even split between TDM, CTF, and TS. The reason you’re probably not seeing it is because clan matches are locked. That’s nice and all but locked CTF or TDM would be much more free of cheaters as well.
I haven’t been able to logic through why so many people are hostile towards server admins. 99% of the time they are just there playing and keeping things running. Cheaters get bent out of shape when they’re slapped and banned… but they’re already pretty bent anyway. I’ve never run into a server where I had any issue with the admins being “powertripping jackasses”. Even in the scenario you described, it could have been as simple as him needing to get a demo for posting and with the scene you started the cheater had turned off his cheats. I have had to deal with problem players causing escalations and making life generally harder by calling hax and tk’ing in game rather than letting Me just do My job as an admin. Hell… a good potion of the time, people that call hax are cheating themselves and think the only way that someone can kill them is because they are cheating too. Calling hax in game without specing and getting a demo is a good way to get spec’d yourself.
I’m sure you would appreciate the benefit of the doubt if someone called hax on you just because you were having a good game.
Also… F1 Lebbra. Something I’ve said many times. Big difference between hacking and cheating that most people can’t seem to grasp.
“Please do not confuse cheaters with hackers who have usually nothing to do with cheaters.”
“Something I’ve said many times. Big difference between hacking and cheating that most people can’t seem to grasp.”
I guess I am retarted! Please explain what the diff. is between the two. Cheating is getting an unfair advantage in/on a competitive game/sport. So if I hack I am by nature cheating. They’re one in teh same…
Hacking is taking things apart and finding out how they work, often so you can modify them.
The people that write the cheating software are scummy hackers that are taking apart ioquake, finding out how it works, and making a modified application that lets them do things that they normally couldn’t. Malicious hacking is often referred to as “black hat” hacking.
Someone that looks at all the cvars in urban terror… finds the ones to change the settings for graphics so that they get better framerates on an older machine… they’re hacking as well. They’re not cheating though… they’re just taking a look under the hood to see if they can tune things up through a better understanding of the engine. This is not “black hat” hacking because it is not malicious in this context.
People that download premade cheats such as mombot… they’re not hackers at all… they’re just using someone else’s work. The common name for them is “script kiddies”. No skill to even make the hack themselves, and certainly done for malicious intent (to cheat). These are the people we’re generally referring to, these are cheaters.
The term “hacks” is used often interchangeably with “cheats” because people don’t know any better and because hackers have gotten a bad reputation due to commercial media and lack of education on the part of the general populous.
So sometimes cheating is hacking, but hacking isn’t always cheating. That is the difference. It’s like saying… anyone that goes over the speed limit is a dangerous criminal. Well… there’s a difference between a high speed pursuit on the freeway and a high speed F1 race. If you walked up to a racer in the Indy 500 and told him he was no better than a criminal running people off the road to evade the cops… he would probably take issue with it as well. So in a community where a good potion of the people are hackers by nature… saying hackers are cheaters is calling everyone here a criminal and after a while we get sick of hearing it.
first http://aimbots.net. game over, plesase insert more credits. quandary <3 your killing our game but fuck it yougot skills.
(Just ask Free, hey [T] you hiring? cool cool.)
Best defense against autoaim is movement., pro's,
will tell you skillz done just come in one facit slone. you learn aim, strat, movement, teamplay, map explots, theoretical best plans – so some cool brah with perfect aim
and none of the other skill set even midly is suspect.
still in question, to me, is walling. sound is fucking retarted and carries throough "solid" objects in this game. i can hear people across the map and learning certian foot step sounds can predict corner plays, jump outs slide attacks etc all day long.
yawn then alias's (guiddb.com)…good players dont just popup out of nowhere.
have a question about a suspected cheater its a hot debate in my clan. here’s the demo tell me what you think plz. http://www.mediafire.com/?wak3zz4z513
Could someone tell me where I can find demo while specting somebody? Maybe its stupid question but I relly don´t know.
Thanks a lot
You can fin your demos in accountname/library/applicationsupport/Quake3/q3ut4/demos
This is on a Mac I’m not sure where to find ina windows but in this folder on a Mac you will see a bunch of documents saying demo0000, demo0001, demo0002…… And so on provided how many demos you’ve recorded. To put these files in a. avi file you need to open them in UrT. Open up UrT go to Demos in the main menu, double click the demo you need to record and once the map is loaded go to console type “/video” (without quotes) and ur UrT.app will begin to compress a .avi file into the same folder you found the demos in so that you may watch them outside of UrT. do not worry when u r recording the .avi file if the dos suddenly goes fucking low this is standard and just means that the demo is converting
Whenever I suspect a hacker, I don’t report them I try to kill them. Its WAY more satisfying than a normal kill and they can smash you sometimes, but still fun.
Uploading a demo… can I really be bothered to do that? C’mon I’m playing a game I don’t want to become internet police over some annoying person playing.
